Over the course of the past month I have made three trips back home in the northeast corner of Kansas. On each trip I noticed that many farmers were clearing additional land for crops and pasture. Most all of the land being cleared was land located along the sides of creek-beds and watershed ravines. Huge slash piles of timber, oak, ash, elm and cottonwood lay blazing or smoldering, sending billows of smoke trailing skyward or wafting lazily amon...
