The group will also perform on Saturday at Santa’s Village in Gering from 11 a.m. to noon.
The public is invited to get into the spirit of the season as the Western Nebraska Community College vocal music program performs “Carols, Cookies and Christmas Cheer” this Friday.
College vocal students take to the stage at 7:30 p.m. at the Midwest Theater in downtown Scottsbluff.
“We don’t have a Christmas celebration every year, but we’ve done a variety of shows over the years,” said WNCC vocal music director Rita Stinner. “We try to alternate events. Last year we performed at the Farm and Ranch Museum. The year before that, we performed the opera Ahmal and the Night Visitors.”
“Carols, Cookies and Christmas Cheer” will feature a wide variety of seasonal music, including “Still, Still, Still” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.”
Select soloists and small ensembles will be featured in a variety of musical styles. Collegiate Chorale, the college’s concert choir, will perform traditional selections from their fall tour and a program of Christmas music. Other featured groups will be the Varsity Vocalese show choir, Quintessence, and Just Bluffin.’
Stinner said this concert is one of their favorites and a Christmas gift to the community. However, free-will donations will be taken to help support the vocal music department’s scholarship fund.
Also during the season, WNCC vocalists will present a matinee performance of the show for local school children at 9 a.m. on Nov. 30. Teachers and administrators can contact the theater at (308) 625-6794 to check for availability.
“We’re also performing at the West Nebraska Art Center on Dec. 4 for their Bach’s Lunch program,” Stinner said. “We’ll also be at Santa’s Village in Gering on Saturday, Dec. 1.”
