For its 12th year, the Gering Arts Festival will be in a new location this Saturday – on 10th St. next to the county courthouse.
Event chairman Donna Cozad said 27 artists, representing 18 booths, have signed up to show their artwork from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
“The committee wanted to try a different venue and being downtown should bring in lots of traffic,” Cozad said. “The shade trees are beautiful and the lawn is gorgeous, so it should be a great day for a show. And it’s easy walking distance of the downtown restaurants.”
Artists who will be attending come from across the Panhandle and eastern Wyoming.
Another is coming from Colorado. Several art guild members will be showing and the West Nebraska Art Center will a booth to publicize their many exhibits and activities.
A wide variety of media will be represented, from lawn art to metal sculpture, jewelry to stained glass, leather, painting, photography and much more. A chain saw artist will also be demonstrating his craft during the day. There will also be face painting and chalk art, with a $100 grand prize to be awarded.
Entertainment will also be going on during the event. Richard Castro will emcee local artists like New Song, Avid Discord, Gabe Botan and Freddie Marquez.
“The true gauge of a successful event is when people are smiling and having a good time,” Cozad said. “And if the artists sell some of their works, that’s important, too.”
The Gering Arts Festival is a production of the Gering Merchants Association.
