Gering police are still investigating the cause of an accident around 9 a.m. Tuesday at the 10th Street railroad crossing in Gering.
Michael Green, 60, of Scottsbluff was driving southbound in a 1993 Ford pickup when he struck a Union Pacific coal train that was already in the crossing.
“We’re still investigating why things happened the way they did,” said Gering Police Capt. Jason Rogers. “Witnesses said the driver went around the crossing arms and hit the train, which was westbound.”
Rogers added that officers are continuing the investigation whether there were other circumstances were involved. “There will be some follow-up to do with the driver. From my understanding, he wasn’t injured. He was walking around at the scene after we arrived and refused medical transport.”
Gering Police and Fire Departments, along with Valley Ambulance, responded to the accident.
