The Scottsbluff boys’ golf team, the state Class B champions in 2013, plans to make it two in a row.
“That’s always our goal,” said three-year coach Mike Klein. “We plan to be there when the state tournament comes up.”
Klein said the team of eight members hasn’t had much time to practice, between bad weather and several players in the state basketball tournament.
“We’ve only had about two or three practices so far,” he said. “We have three players coming back from last year that are all good players.”
Klein said he likes what he’s seen from practice so far, but said the team also needs to establish more depth and consistency. “It’s there. We just need to bring it out.”
Curtis Welch returns as a senior from last year’s championship team. Juniors Coy Potoff and Sean Mercer-Smith, along with sophomores Jared Pilkington and Jonah Wright are also returning team members.
“We’ll be ready to go when the season opens,” Klein said. “Right now it’s just a matter of getting outside and getting some practice in.”
The Scottsbluff boys open their season Tuesday, April 8 on the road for a 9 a.m. Invitational at Sidney.
