Landowners need to be watering now

With the end of a long, harsh winter, landscapes are really dry – so it’s important to water everything now.

“People need to be watering their trees, shrubs and perennials because it’s critical at this stage of their development because we’ve had no moisture,” said Sally Eittreim of Prairie Designs and Landscapes.

“In this area, soils are one of the issues when deciding what to plant,” Eittreim said. “Soils are different around the valley and clay, sand and loam soils each require different treatments.”

She said some plants don’t respond well to the high alkaline conditions of local soil, so supplements are necessary to get the soil ready for planting.

When asked what she likes about the landscaping business, Sally responded with two words: instant gratification.

“It’s so much fun to put together a landscape the homeowner wants,” she said. “You take someone else’s dreams and turn them into a plan that will work. It’s fun to watch as the property develops. And it’s rewarding to see the owner’s pleasure to the changes.”
