|Attorney Dave Eubanks to fulfill Warner’s term|
|August 07, 2014 Jerry Purvis|
During their regular Monday meeting, Scotts Bluff County Commissioners introduced the new County Attorney.
Dave Eubanks has been on the job since Aug. 1 to complete the remainder of the term for Doug Warner, who resigned to take a position with the Nebraska Attorney General’s office.
Warner had earlier announced he would not seek re-election, leaving Eubank as the only candidate on the ballot this November.
A 1987 graduate of Creighton Law School, Eubanks first worked in the county attorney’s office for Brian Silverman. He later went into private practice until 2008. Most recently, he’s been the Public Defender for Box Butte County, commuting from Scottsbluff to Alliance.
“Brian Silverman, who passed away about a year ago, was a phenomenal public servant and county attorney,” Eubanks said. “When Doug decided not to seek re-election, he asked me if I was interested. After looking at the position, I decided I was ready for a change.”
Eubanks said because he’s new on the job, he won’t be involved with some of the major cases that have been ongoing for months. “I knew there was no way I could get up to speed right away with an investigation that’s been going on for a year,” he said. “However, I’m taking over more new cases every day, so my caseload will continue to grow.”
While he’s new on the job, Eubanks is familiar with most of the assistant attorneys in the office. And a number of the staff members are still there from his tenure about 20 years ago.
Eubanks will appear unopposed on the Nov. 4 general election ballot for Scotts Bluff County Attorney.
