|Supermarket planned for Broadway location|

A yet-to-be-named supermarket and auto plaza is in the works for property on the west side of Broadway and just north of the OK Tire store in Scottsbluff.
Scottsbluff City Manager Rick Kuckkahn said a proposal has been submitted to the city for a supermarket and separate gas pumps. The site, vacant for several years, once housed the only oil refinery in Nebraska, opened by Terry Carpenter.
“We don’t know who the operator is yet, but the plans say grocery,” Kuckkahn said. “The proposal goes to the Planning Commission on April 13.
Kuckkahn said the zoning will also have to be readjusted. The area is currently zoned M-1 for light manufacturing. A supermarket would be allowed within that zoning. A corner of the property being platted is zoned C-3 for commercial. The Planning Commission will need to determine which zoning designation would be the most appropriate.
The zoning doesn’t have a direct effect on the supermarket, but the process is simply to unify the district lines on the west side of the property.
“When you look at that zoning district and consider the options for it, a supermarket probably isn’t a bad deal,” Kuckkahn said. “There are quite a variety of permissible uses in a light industrial zone.”
