Following a strong finish at the DECA Nebraska State Career Development Conference last month, Gering chapter members are teaming with the Gering Boosters to help raise funds to send the eight national qualifiers to the international conference later this month in Florida.

“We’ve already received some donations just on the positive press,” said Gering DECA sponsor Broc Brown. “We’ll be out in the community soon to sell hole sponsorships in the annual Gering Booster Club golf tournament. Some of the money will help with travel to the international conference.”

The DECA International Career Development Conference is in Orlando, Fla. on April 25-29. The cost to attend national conference in Orlando is about $1,000 per student or $8,000 total. Support from the community in the form of donations is needed to help offset some of these costs for the students. Contact Broc Brown at (308) 436-3125 if you’d like to help.

“The kids really exceeded my expectations at the state conference,” Brown said. “We had eight qualify for the international competition and five others won individual awards. It was impressive.”
This is the fourth DECA has been a part of Gering High School and each year students have qualified to attend the international conference.

Students who won awards at the State Career Development Conference include: Adrian Silva 1st Place – Professional Selling; Rebecca Brenner 1st Place – International Business Plan, and 1st Place on Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling; Nicolette Cook 3rd Place – Accounting Applications; Allie Baird and Allie Boggs 3rd Place – Hospitality and Tourism Business Operations Research; Kyle Upp, Jon Hastings, and Jacey Shaul 3rd Place – Entrepreneurship Written Event.
