Because everyone needs a hero, the public is invited to dress up as their favorite superhero and join in the 6th annual Super Hero Run this Sunday to benefit CAPstone.
“The event theme is that everybody needs a hero, but abused children need a superhero,” said CAPstone director Holly Brandt.
Events for the Super Hero run starts at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 26. The kids 1K fun run starts at 1:30 p.m. at the CAPstone building, 900 P St. in Gering. The 5K run starts at 2 p.m. at the Memorial Stadium at Gering Junior High School.
Brandt said the Super Hero run is one of the big fundraisers the group sponsors. Proceeds go help with services that CAPstone provides to child victims and their families.
The organization provides forensic interview services for child victims, advocacy for child victims and non-offending family members. They also refer and pay for counseling for child victims, as well as medical examinations if needed. Ongoing support and education is also part of the services CAPstone provides.
Their mission is to reduce trauma and promote healing for child abuse victims and their families in a safe, child friendly environment where children can be heard and supported.
People can still register for the Super Hero run. An online form is available at capstonenebraska.com or you can call (308) 632-7274.
