Eight Gering DECA students returned from Orlando after competing in the International Career Development Conference April 24 – 27.
This year, Rebecca Brenner was the first student from Gering to make finals and place in the top 10 at the International Conference. Rebecca competed in an international business plan event where she submitted her 30-page business plan and presented a 15 minute presentation.
“The entire team performed very well,” said sponsor Broc Brown. “We practiced before we went and I think that paid off for us. The kids were excited and happy with the comments they received from the judges.”
When the competition was completed, Gering received certificates of excellence signifying top 20 percent scores for all DECA students.
The following students also performed well at the conference and earned a certificate of excellence by scoring in the top 20 percent internationally. Adrian Silva - Professional Selling; Kyle Upp, Jon Hastings, and Jacey Shaul - Entrepreneurship written; Allie Boggs and Allie Baird - Hospitality and Tourism Operations research; Nicolette Cook - Accounting Applications.
“Our success has shown the growth of our chapter over the past four years,” Brown said. “We’re continually improving each year.”
