|Scanlan finishes second in pageant|

Gering native Teresa Scanlan, who at 17 became the youngest Miss America in 2011, finished second last weekend in the Miss World America Pageant contest.
In early June, Scanlan announced via YouTube video she was returning to the pageant circuit. She said she had been approached to compete as Miss Nebraska World in the Miss World America Pageant.
The pageantís final round was staged on July 3 in the auditorium at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C.
Earlier that week, Scanlan and roommate Miss Nevada World Bianca Gaden were the top finishers in the Top Model competition.
In other Challenge Events that week, Scanlan was the 4th Runner-up the Beauty with a Purpose category, was the winner of the judges interview, and placed in the top 10 in Evening Gown, Multimedia, Introduction Video, and Most Photogenic categories.
Nineteen-year-old Victoria Mendoza of Arizona was crowned Miss World America 2015 and will compete in the Miss World Pageant in December in China.
According to her website, Scanlan is currently attending Patrick Henry College in Virginia, majoring in government. She plans to attend Harvard Law School and become a criminal prosecutor. Eventually, she would like to become a judge and get involved in the political arena. Her highest goal is become president or a Supreme Court justice.
In her spare time, Scanlan enjoys singing, acting, dancing, playing piano and guitar, composing songs, baking, hiking, participating in activities with her local church, and making clothes out of duct tape, among other hobbies.
