Gering resident Kyle McDonald, 29, has been arrested and charged in Scotts Bluff County Court with first degree sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl he friended on Facebook.
An affidavit from Sgt. Monty Lovelace of the Nebraska State Patrol was filed with the Clerk of the County Court on Aug. 7.
The incident came to light Aug. 6 after the minor disclosed to an advocate with the CAPstone Child Advocacy Center she had sex with McDonald on at least three or four occasions. She told the advocate she first met him when he friended her on Facebook. Their conversations soon turned sexual.
According to the affidavit, the first incident happened last January. After midnight, McDonald drove to a location near the victim’s home in Gering.
The next incident happened a month later at a Gering storage unit. Another occurred in a different car on a county road somewhere south of Gering on Sandberg Road.
The affidavit also stated McDonald bought the minor a phone so she could communicate with him without her mother knowing. But the mother recently found the phone, which contained nude pictures of the girl that had been sent to McDonald.
McDonald was interviewed by the State Patrol on Aug. 7 and he acknowledged he had sex with the girl on the occasions she described to the CAPstone advocate.
McDonald’s first court appearance was before Judge James Worden on Monday afternoon. He was charged with two counts of 1st degree sexual assault of a minor.
A preliminary hearing for McDonald has been scheduled in Scotts Bluff County Court for Friday, Aug. 21 at 2:30 p.m.
