Pastor Tyson Lambertson has been a pastor of The Rock Church in Scottsbluff for nine years nearly as long as there’s been a Biker Sunday. And, a first for the event, this year bikers will gather in Gering.

Lambertson expects quite a number of bikers to join the 10th Annual Biker Sunday at the Civic Center in Gering on Sunday, Aug. 23, starting at 9 a.m., with coffee and donuts. The worship service at 10 a.m. and noon, a free BBQ lunch afterward, and invites anyone to participate.

“I was raised around bikers and motorcycles,” Lambertson said. “I feel it’s something the Lord wanted me to do. Our first run had about 40 motorcycles. Last year, we had approximately 150 motorcycles. In the first year of doing it, our goal was to see people come to know Christ. We’d see people who would not normally enter church come and get involved. The run is a connecting point, and gives others a chance to serve.”

Touring the valley, bikers involved in a 70-mile ride—more commonly known as a biker run—will help to benefit an ongoing mission in Nicaragua. Lambertson said his church has been in Nicaragua for the past six years. In that time, church volunteers have built a school and church facility. Now, they plan to start construction this year on The Tree of Life Women’s Center in Esteli, the nation’s third largest city in the north central highlands.

Everyone is welcome to join Biker Sunday, especially kids, with activities featuring a kid’s Rock Service, and bouncy houses. “This is a great opportunity for fellowship,” Lambertson said.
Featured speaker Mike Canaday will share inspiration and testimony about how God spared his life after he hit a wall at 100 mph, while drag racing bikes and setting a track record.

For more information, visit www.therockne.com, and for anyone interested in joining the mission in Nicaragua, the deadline for signing up is Sept. 6.

The Rock Church has three locations in Gering, Scottsbluff and North Platte.
