The Scottsbluff girls’ golf team, last year’s Class B state champs, posted their second and third wins of the season, starting with the Sidney Invite on Aug. 25. They followed that up with another win on Saturday at the Western Conference meet in Sidney.

Scottsbluff topped the team scores at 375 in the six-team field in Division I. Gering was in fifth place at 432.

The Bearcats’ Hannah Holloway topped the individual standings, carding an 85. Teammate Shelby Poynter was in third with an 88. Other Scottsbluff golfers were Jordan Hoxworth at 99, Rachel Hancock at 103 and Karlie Johnson at 106.

“We only beat Sidney by three strokes, so we didn’t play very well,” said Scottsbluff golf coach Mike Klein. “We played much better at the Western Conference on Friday.”

Scottsbluff won the Western Conference meet with a team score of 364, 23 strokes ahead of second place Sidney, who finished at 387.
Hannah Holloway shot an 82 Friday afternoon, tying with Sidney’s Emma Alexander for the medal. However, Holloway lost in the playoff.

Shelby Poynter finished third in the individual standings with an 85 and Jordan Hoxworth was in seventh with a 96. Just behind her was Karlie Johnson in 10th with 101. Rachel Hancock carded a 110 on the day.

“It’s looking good so far but we just need to get better,” Klein said. “The good thing about this week is that we have time to practice without a lot of meets. There are a couple of after school events this week and there’s only one meet next week. It really gets going after that.”

Scottsbluff will host a quadrangular on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m.
Gering also competed at both Sidney meets. The team finished in fifth place with team score of 432 at last Tuesday’s |Sidney Invite and none of the team made the top 10 among individual standings. Baily Kreider led the team with a two-round total of 100. Teammate Jaylen Beam was two strokes behind at 102. DJ Bokelman carded a 113, followed by Megan Maser at 117 and Hassie Hood at 124.
Gering played better golf as a team on Friday at the Western Conference meet, finishing in third place with a team score of 419. Jayden Beam led the team in individual standings, shooting a 100 for eighth place overall. Teammate Allysa Hoagland was a stroke behind in ninth at 101. DJ Bokelman carded a 105, followed by Baily Kreider at 113 and Ashley Mitchell at 125.

Next up for the Bulldogs is a road trip to Cheyenne East on Sept. 3-4.
