Bearcats post 9-0 tennis wins

The Scottsbluff girls’ tennis team went without a loss on April 19, posting 9-0 wins over both Gering and Alliance in a triangular match at Gering. The win improves the Bearcats’ dual record to 5-2 as they prepare for their home invitational coming up this weekend (April 23).

All of Scottsbluff’s six singles positions posted 8-0 sweeps of their Gering opponents. They were Zoe Holscher, Christina Villarreal, Stacea Pauli, Sarah Cloud, Rachel Hancock and Alisha Huynh.

Against Alliance, Cloud had an 8-0 win at the No. 4 singles position. Huynh went 8-1 at No. 6 singles, while Holscher, Villarreal Pauli and Hancock all won their singles matches by 8-2 scores.

“We played really strong last night on the JV side and the Varsity side,” said Scottsbluff tennis coach Cassie Behnke. “I’m looking forward to this weekend’s Invite and hope to see some strong competition from our girls.”

In doubles action against Gering, Scottsbluff’s No. 1 team of Pauli and Cloud posted an 8-1 win over Katie Wagoner and Bobbie Claflin. Scottsbluff’s No. 2 doubles team of Huynh and Monah Wyre went to a 7-5 tiebreaker before getting the 9-5 win over Gering’s Sheridan Blanco and Adrianna Guel. The Bearcats’ No. 3 team of Holscher and Villarreal blanked Gering’s Annastacia Cowan and Paige Peterson, 8-0.

Scottsbluff’s No. 2 doubles team of Pauli and Cloud handed an 8-0 shutout to Alliance’s Rachael Hahn and Uriah Little Hoop. The No. 2 team of Huynh and Wyre were 8-1 winners over McKenna Romick and Elise Stoike of Alliance. Holscher and Villarreal teamed up at No. 3 doubles for the 8-2 win over Courtney Little Hoop and Ashley Fattig.
