For the past five years, the Gering softball team has won the Western Conference championship. Last year the posted a 20-12 season to finish third at Districts. For the 2016 season, the plan is to get back to districts.

Head Coach Tim Gonzales, now in his third year at Gering, returns 12 players from last season. Hitting was a big factor in the team’s success last year, so that will be his focus again. “Our goal is to start slow, but finish strong,” he said.

Top upperclassmen for the Gering squad include seniors Jacey Marietta, Kaylee Bohnsack, Annessa Escamilla and Becca Svoboda. Juniors include Kaetlyn Todd, Tori Hoagland, Paige Peterson and Delaney Dean.

The team’s promising newcomers include Kelly Snelling, Marley Garcia, Jess Svoboda and Kenzie Schlaepfer.

Assistant coaches include Jacque Marquez, who is the second year and Junior Varsity coach, and volunteers Maddison Spencer, Aubrey Gonzales.
