Local residents create a memorial on the west edge of Mitchell after an early morning accident on August 20. Joshua Bolzer, 23, of Mitchell, lost control of his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup on Route 26 leading into Mitchell, according to the Nebraska State Patrol. Passenger Dereon Betancur, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bolzer and two other occupants, Thomas Riley and Braydon Wiedeman, both 19, of Mitchell, were transported to Regional West Medical Center where they were treated for injuries. Bolzer was arrested and lodged at the Scotts Bluff County Detention center for DWI, Motor Vehicle Homicide, and Willful Reckless Driving. Upon conclusion of the investigation Bolzer was charged with driving under the influence, motor vehicle homicide and willful reckless driving.
