This Cobblestone Hotel in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is similar to the three-story hotel planned for Gering. The 54-room hotel will include a swimming pool.
The vacant lot at 10th and M Streets in downtown Gering will see some activity soon as a groundbreaking has been announced for a planned Cobblestone Hotel.
Jeremy Griesbach, President of Development with Wisconsin based BriMark Builders, said Cobblestone Hotel and Suites said groundbreaking has been scheduled for first week of November at the site.
Last May, the Gering council approved BriMark as the redeveloper of record for the project. BriMark is the construction arm for Cobblestone Hotels, which are built throughout the Midwest, including Nebraska. When BriMark was appointed as redeveloper, Gering had already demolished the former Prairie Pines Quilt Shop, the former laundromat, and two houses on the site.
The quilt shop already moved across the street into the Fresh Foods building, and the laundromat later found a home on the south edge of the downtown area.
In July of 2015, Gering approved Tax Increment Financing to help fund construction. A group of private investors are also involved.
The 54-room, three story hotel will have approximately 60 parking spaces and will include an indoor pool. Griesbach said construction will continue through the winter, weather permitting. The new hotel is projected to be open in early summer 2017.
