SIDNEY — The Gering girls and Scottsbluff boys took first place at the Western Conference Track and Field Meet on Saturday in Sidney.

For the boys, it wasn’t close as Scottsbluff piled up 157 points, with Gering taking second with 113 points. Alliance was third at 105, followed by Sidney in fourth with 78, Chadron in fifth with 52 points and Mitchell in sixth with 21.

The point spread was much closer for the girls’ teams as Gering held off Sidney 158 to 141. Again, Alliance was third with 64 points. Fourth place went to Scottsbluff with 61. In fifth was Mitchell with 57, followed by Chadron with 33.

The 300 intermediate hurdles went to Isaiah Castellaw within 39.9 seconds. And Jon Maag threw the discus a first-place 144 feet, 4 inches.

The Scottsbluff team of Matt D. Klein, Luke Worden, Matt T. Klein and Isaiah Castellaw also won the 4x100 relay in 43.8 seconds, just one-tenth of a second better than the Gering team of Dillon Wademan, Mark Pieper, Danny O’Boyle and Zach Smith.

For the Gering boys, O’Boyle won both the 200 and 400 events with times of 23.1 and 50.2.
