Eleven-year-old Madison Kinney takes her best shot at a trophy but falls short of placing.

The second annual Citizen Marshmallow Spitting Contest was a hit this year with about 75 contestants in four categories. By far the largest category was the age 8 and under group. “We might have to have a pee wee category next year,” said contest organizer Lisa Betz. “I was really surprised by the tiny ones who wanted to be involved.”

Last year’s reigning men’s adult champion, Brian Doll, was upset by Chad Maurer with a 38 ft. spit, landing well beyond Doll’s 22’5” measurement. The crowd gasped as Maurer’s marshmallow sailed through the air.

The winners of the women’s adult category were first place, Morgan Hernandez, with a 20’2” spit, and second place at 19 ft., Krea Hanniford. Third place was Sara Reichert with 18’10.”
In the ages 9-12 category, Dylan Lindesay placed first with a 20’6” ft. spit; Jake Rocheleau placed second with a 17’3.” spit, and Brandon Ramos rounded out third place with a 13 ft. spit.
Contestants were treated to cold water provided by Culligan, and winners received a McDonald’s meal card, with the first place winner receiving a championship trophy.
