Minatare Indians young but excited for season
     2012-08-23      By Terry Gaston
Many new faces are featured in the Minatare football lineup this season, starting with the late promotion of assistant coach J.J. Ozuna to head coach after Gene Russel took a coaching job in his native Gering.
Also gone is standout rusher and receiver Bradley Metcalf, who transferred to Scottsbluff.
Ozuna said the Indians, with just one senior in Danny Grumbles, will have to learn quickly but can if they maintain a good attitude as the Indians follow a 3-5 season from 2011.
“It is going to be key if the guys can keep their composure, and we have to rely on the younger guys to step up and fill key roles,“ said Ozuna, who has been a volunteer assistant. “I think we‘ve got a good season ahead of us.”
Grumbles will be joined at running back by sophomores Marc Cinocco (5-7, 140 pounds) and Javier Guerrero (5-9, 160) — who may also see time at quarterback, where sophomore Tyler Koke gets the starting nod.
Junior state track qualifier Steven Juarez (5-9, 140) will be key at receiver, with the line featuring junior center Tylor Grumbles (6-foot, 240) and sophomore Chance McAllister (6-foot, 170).
Defensively, Cinocco returns at linebacker after making more than 100 tackles last year. Flanking Cinocco on the outside backer spots are Danny Grumbles and Guerrero, while McAllister will be at one end and Tylor Grumbles will be on the line. Juarez holds down the safety spot.
