Bayard brings young talent to varsity
     2012-08-23      By Terry Gaston
A Bayard Tiger junior class that as eighth-graders outscored its opponents 140-0 will be called upon to help carry the Tigers into the future after Bayard relied on the potent arm of Brandon Stuart the past three years, the latter two that resulted in the Tigers’ first playoff appearances since 1993.
Junior Zac Rice (5-foot-11, 150 pounds) has been Stuart’s understudy at quarterback and takes the starting role. Six Tigers return as offensive starters, including senior receiver Braydon Parriott (6-1, 175), senior rusher Allen Denton (5-10, 160) and junior Jaden Smith (5-10, 115).
Bayard returns three linemen in seniors Dustin Daniel (6-1, 220) and Austin Wiley (6-0, 210) and junior Tanner Willey (5-10, 195). For the Willeys, it will be their third season in varsity starting roles, Tigers coach Philep Willey said.
Senior Lane Kizzire (5-7, 155) comes into the season as an additional receiver, while sophomore Tristan Hunter (5-11, 160) will play out of the backfield.
Defensively, Bayard has seven returnees. Daniel and Austin Willey return on the line, while Parriott, Tanner Willey and senior Tyson Schmunk (5-10, 175) return at linebacker. Denton will play the safety role after moving from cornerback, with junior David Schuler (6-0, 140) at one corner.
Other players who could play key roles as linemen include senior Jacob Johnson (6-1, 170), juniors Richard Kadayso (6-1, 200) and Trenton Applegate (5-11, 170), sophomores Collin Roeber (5-10, 225) and Bryce Hargens.
Bayard opens its season Friday against Class C-2 power Cambridge
