SCOTTSBLUFF – Bearcats Coach Joe Benson has been selected as an assistant coach for the annual 2011 West Nebraska All-Star Football Game.

Benson joins Chip Kay from Perkins County High School and J.C. Stroup from Dundy County-Stratton High Schools as assistant coaches for the game, which will mark its 34th year this year.

Travis Hawk from Alliance High School will lead the West team as head coach. Hawk’s team finished this past season with a 4-5 record. This is Coach Hawk’s second time serving as a coach for the West team. He has previously served as an assistant coach in 2008.

The West Nebraska All-Star Football game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Bearcat Stadium in Scottsbluff.
Leading the coaching staff for the East team will be Nathan Liess from Sutherland High School. During the 2010 season, Liess led Sutherland to an overall record of 1-7. This will be Liess’ second time as a coach in the West Nebraska All Star Game. He served as an assistant coach for the East team in 2009.

The East assistant coaches are Jarod Albers from Hitchcock County High School, Brad Dunlap from Eustis-Farnam High School High and Craig Schmeckpeper from Valentine High School.

A portion of the proceeds from the West Nebraska All-Star Games benefit the Scotts Bluff County Volunteer Center.
