The Mitchell Tigers girls’ golf team is made up with many beginners this year so Coach Kaci Kearns said it was time to return to the basics when they started pre-season practice on Aug. 12. “We have seven girls total on the team and four of them are new,” Kearns said.

“We got a week down of practice and are just getting going.”
Kearns did note that returning state participant Emily Snyder, who is a junior this year, does bring some experience and leadership to the team. “It is helpful to have a player who earned her way to state last year,” Kearns said. “But with so many new players we really need to start with the basics and work to get our team together.”

Kearns said their first tournament would be the Western Trails Conference contest at Bayard on Aug. 29. “We will be heading to Sidney the very next day for the Western Conference tourney,” Kearns said.

Kearns, who is the first grade teacher for Mitchell Elementary School has been the girls’ high school golf coach for five years.
“I am very excited and looking forward to another golf season,” She said.
