Bulldogs get new football coach
     2011-04-21      By Gering Citizen    editor@geringcitizen.com
Jimmie Rhodes, an assistant football coach at Gering High School for a number of years, has been promoted to the top job.

The appointment was approved by members of the Gering School Board during their regular Monday meeting.

In addition to his football experience, Rhodes was an assistant track and field coach. He was also Gering’s head wrestling coach for four seasons before stepping down from that position last year.

During his years as wrestling coach, Rhodes led Gering to championships in Class B, District 4 in 2008 and 2009. They were a runner-up on 2007.

Rhodes takes over as head football coach from Tom O’Boyle, who resigned earlier this year as Activities Director for Gering Schools. O’Boyle had been the Gering coach since 2003.

O’Boyle’s Bulldog squad finished 3-6 in 2010, suffering five straight losses before ending the season with a 31-7 victory over Sidney.

Along with his coaching duties, Rhodes will teach weights and fitness at the high school and at the Freshman Academy.
