Basketball Hall of Fame Jamboree games feature triangulars in Gering

Are you ready for some high school basketball?

Several Valley area teams —including Gering, Scottsbluff and Mitchell — will participate in Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame Jamboree scrimmage events, with Gering and Mitchell welcoming Crawford to the county on Saturday for a triangular event at the Gering High School gymnasium.

Action starts at 3 p.m. with the girls’ triangular, in which each meeting will consist of a 16-minute half of action. Gering will play Crawford first, followed by Mitchell against Crawford and then Gering taking on Mitchell.

The boys’ triangular will start at about 6 p.m., using the same rotation: Gering vs. Crawford, then Mitchell against Crawford and finally Gering vs. Mitchell.

Two other Jamboree events will take place Monday, with both Scottsbluff and Morrill traveling south for their scrimmages.

Scottsbluff will travel to Kimball for the teams’ annual Jamboree meetings. The Scottsbluff and Kimball girls will play four quarters starting at 5 p.m., followed by the Bearcat and Longhorn boys at about 6:30 p.m.

Morrill travels to Dalton to face Leyton, with the girls beginning their scrimmage at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys at about 7 p.m.

All proceeds from the gate receipts will go to the Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame.

Teams begin their regular-season schedules next week, starting with the annual Western Conference Invitational Tournament that begins Thursday and includes a season-opening doubleheader matching Gering and Scottsbluff at the GHS gymnasium.

Mitchell plays host to Torrington in a first-round doubleheader, also beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Tiger teams are guaranteed to play either Gering or Scottsbluff on Friday in semifinal action.

Friday’s semifinals will be at Scottsbluff High School for first-round losers and at Western Nebraska Community College’s Cougar Palace for first-round winners.

Girls’ semifinal games involving the three county teams will be at 5 p.m., and the boys’ games will be at 8 p.m. Finals will take place Saturday, with consolation finals at Scottsbluff High starting at 10 a.m., and the third-place games kicking off the action at WNCC beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Bayard will open its season by hosting its four-team invitational on Dec. 6 and 7. The Tigers will play Leyton in first-round games Friday. Bridgeport and Lingle-Fort Laramie.

Other season-opening action for area teams includes Morrill playing in the Kimball Classic, playing Yoder-Southeast on Dec. 6 and Dundy County-Stratton on Dec. 7.

Minatare will play host to South Platte on Dec. 6, while Banner County opens against Garden County in Harrisburg on Dec. 6 and travels to Potter-Dix on Dec. 7. Minatare will travel to Banner County on Dec. 10.
