MORRILL — Even though their numbers are small, the Morrill Lions are expecting to be a strong contender in the Class D ranks. Second-year head coach Bobby Wiegel, with coaching assistance from Lupe Gonzales, is excited about his team’s prospects with the return of three of his six state qualifiers from the 2012-2013 season. Junior Matt Hessler is expected to lead the way for the Lions competing in the heavyweight class and build on his sophomore season where he notched over 30 wins.

Other state qualifiers returning for the Lions this year are Garrett Zwiebel at 160 and Jackson Carpenter at 182. Sophomore Justus Peterson will also be a contributing points earner.

Morrill opened their season Dec. 5 at Mitchell and will continue this Saturday in a big Class D tournament in Harrisburg.
