MORRILL — The Morrill Boys’ Basketball team is building on their record of 5-14 from last year. First-year head coach Bill Edwards is looking for leadership from returning starter, junior guard Jorge Lara and the contributions from some talented underclassmen to carry the season. The Lions are competing this year among the class D-1 ranks.

Returning letter earners include sophomores Ryan McMackin, who has tallied some key scoring in the first three weeks of the season, sophomore Jordan Rhode and junior Victor Valles. Morrill has also been assisted by the talents of senior Riley DeBoer who transferred from Scottsbluff to finish out his prep career. Seniors Colten Miller and Thalor Mendoza have also been key contributors as fast-paced players.

So far on the season Morrill has seen a lot of road action, with a season-opening tournament in Kimball followed by three road games against Garden County, Kimball and Hay Springs. The Lions will have two more match-ups, one at home game against Edgemont, S.D. on Friday, Dec. 20 and then making the short trip east to meet the Mitchell Tigers on Saturday, Dec. 21 before heading into the holiday break. Morrill will return to action Jan. 3-4 when they travel to Harrison for the Sioux County Holiday Tournament.
