Bearcat girls bring strength and experience to the field

The 2014 Scottsbluff Bearcat girls’ soccer team is looking to have a lot brighter year than last season’s 5-10 rperformance. Coach Chad Larson, says this year looks a lot more promising.

“We have a great group of players returning with lots of varsity experience,” Larson said.

With only 23 players, down from last year, Larson feels they will still be a tough team to beat because of the more experienced players. “We need to build off of those players and improve our speed of play and finishing.” It’s not much of an overhaul, but by putting players in different positions, Larson says it will create more opportunity for the team to score.

Seniors Celeste Calderon, Mariah DeLosSantos, Micah Holloway, Marissa Peterson, Kayla Pierce, Bessie Sanchez, McKenzie Sanchez, Rachel Weis and top upperclassman, Aubree Ford, are among the team’s starting line-up, along with promising newcomers Alisha Guitierrez and Courtney Wills.

Coach Larson is in his 14th year coaching, eight of which he’s been head coach of the Bearcats. He will be coaching with the help of Bethany Conde and Ryan Larson.

“This year we just hope to improve from last year and play good, overall quality soccer.”
