Photo by Lisa Betz/Gering Citizen - The Scottsbluff High School boys’ soccer team members this year are front row from left, Trey Noe, Kenton Sessions, Jackson Thomas, Court Muhr, Zac Meier, TJ Albright, Travis Zeiler, Brady Sindt; second row, Jake Morphew,Ben Rodriquez, JJ Blomstedt, Hever Morales, Jake Anderson, Edwin Delgado, Owen Parra, Eseah Ingram, Jayson Marks, Yonathan Lara-Robles, Hugo Sanchez, Abraham Alfaro, Patrick Madden; third row, Mitchell Miles, Spencer Riddick, Jordan Salazar, Nik Hubbard, Matt Mickey, Denzel Salazar, Tristan Donelson, Blake Wills, Anthony Parra, Jackson Hinze, Norawit Kongtanakarun, Rico Cortez, Brenton Riesen and Blake Nikont.
After a strong 2013 season, (10-8) the Scottsbluff Bearcat boys’ soccer team hopes to win district and state in 2014. There are 41 students participating this year with promising newcomers Mitch Miles, Jayson Marks, Patrick Madden, Yonathan Lara-Robles, Bruno Flores Yo Kongtankarun and Denzel Salazar.

With 10 years of coaching under his belt, eight of which are for the Bearcats, coach Nate Rock, says although the system will stay the same, they need to improve on overall tactical awareness and fundamentals.

They have also changed their approach to how they are training the team. “Core groups of 30 players train together and from those 30 we select our JV and Varsity squads on a game to game basis,” he said.

Rock says the team will need to find a consistent goal scoring threat early on in the games. “We should be strong down the center, with speed and skill on the flanks.”

Anthony Parra, Blake Wills, Jackson Hinze, Matt Mickey, Owen Parra, Eseah Ingram, Jackson Thomas, Tristan Donelson, Edwin Delgado and Rico Cortez are among the JV and Varsity players who Rock feels will pack a nice kick this year.

Coaches Brad Wright, Matt Dreher, Jesus Villagarana and Jarron Rasnic are going to be guiding the team to what will hopefully be a great victory.
