MORRILL — Will the Morrill High School Lions track teams be sprinting, jumping and pole vaulting their way into victory this season? Head Coach Terry Miller says “heck yes” as there are a lot of great athletes out this year along with returning lettermen coming back to lead the way.

“We’re looking to test our athletes in our early meets and improve upon their competitive talents,” he said.

There are 20 kids including top upperclassmen Sabrina Austin, doing long jump and sprints, Kiley Guerue, running middle distance and relays. Foreign exchange students, Darius Mews and Mara Kleen, of Germany, will also be joining the team. There are high hopes for freshmen Jessica Harvey and Shalyn Lackey, going out for sprints and jumps.

Miller, along with coaches Nicole Fredrickson, Rick Sides and Bobby Wiegel all agree that their main goal for each athlete is to improve their performance as the season progresses.

The Lions Track Team will start with an away meet in Chadron on March 22 and are expected to be competing at the state track meet in Omaha, May 23-24.

“We are expecting top performances in both the WTC Conference and the Panhandle Conference meets in preparation for a great showing at Districts,” Miller said.
