Thirteen track teams gathered in Bayard on Friday for the annual Bayard BCD Invitational. Sidney was the big winner of the day sweeping both the boys and girls first place team scores. Mitchell came in second on the boys’ side and Bayard took second on the girls’ side.

Boys’ highlights included Levi Avila taking home the gold in the 800 as teammate Chase Watson placed first in the 1600. Mitchell continued to earn the top places as they conquered the 4x800 relay with Levi Avila, Tate Harvey, Chase Watson, and Edward Grentz. Bridgport’s Quentin Baxter found the gold in the high jump as did fellow Bulldog Jamie Gonzalez in the long jump. Mitchell’s Adam Schlotthauer finished the field events with a first in triple jump.

The local girls had wins too as Bayard Tiger Jessi Smith dashed to a triple crown victory on the track in the 200, 400, and 800. Mitchell Tiger Celeste Cardona took the gold in the 1600. Chellani Parriott earned 6 points for Bayard and a first place in the 100 meter hurdles.

Pariott was joined by fellow Bayard Tigers Haley Sauer, Miah Vera, and Jessi Smith to win the 4x100. The Mitchell foursome of Devin Beaver, Cardona, McKenna Zuloski, and Taylor Peters were tops in the 4x400. Mitchell 4x800 team of Beaver, Peters, Cardona and Madison Watson teamed up to get the gold in the 4x800.

Bridgeport Bulldog Aimee Hass won the shot put and discus for the sweep of weights. Bayard jumper Miah Vera sprang to the lead in the long jump and triple jump joined by teammate Megan Stuart in the pole vault.

Districts are coming up with today with Bayard hosting the C-11 meet joined by Bridgeport and six other teams. Mitchell has to travel to Ogallala for the tough B-6 meet against nine other powerhouse teams including local teams Scottsbluff and Gering. Best of luck to all athletes as compete to the right to go to the state track meet in Omaha.

Mitchell Head Track Coach Michelle Peters said she was “very pleased with how the kids went out and competed, we competed hard, and we improved our times for the most part which is what we were trying to do to get ready for districts. I am very pleased with how they looked on Friday.”
