The Scottsbluff Lady Bearcats finished their regular season on the road with a dual match on May 15 at Ogallala, where they came away with a 3-1 team win and a 7-7 dual record on the year.

No. 1 singles Zoe Holscher and No. 2 singles Christina Villarreal continued their season-long strong performances as Holscher came away with a 6-0, 6-0 win in straight sets. Villarreal also won with a 6-2, 6-0 score. The No. 2 doubles team of Rachel Madden and Makayla Castro posted another win with a 6-3, 6-1 score.

“Christina and Zoe have just been playing really good tennis and keeping it up throughout the season,” said Coach Cassie Behnke. “It was also good to see the No. 2 doubles team come away with a win. They’ve been on kind of a drought, so a win was good as we head into the state tournament.”

Gering was scheduled to finish its regular season on May 17 with a home triangular against Alliance and Ogallala, but was rained out.

Both Gering and Scottsbluff will compete in the state tournament on May 22 and 23 in Lincoln. Because of the tournament format, both team’s entire lineup will be able to compete.
