Gering head softball coach

“I know this season will be a tough transition for the girls with having a new coach and losing a couple great players but I do believe we will be able to compete.” Tim Gonzales
Gonzales named new Gering softball coach

The Bulldogs gained a new head coach for their softball team recently. Tim Gonzales, who has had many years of coaching experience in the sport, is excited to begin his journey with the team. Gonzales previously had coached for both the Twin City Diamonds and Riverdogs teams for the past ten years. What led him to start coaching can be attributed to his oldest daughter.
“What brought me into my passion for coaching softball was my oldest daughter Aubrey. We got started with traveling softball probably about ten years ago and she loved it. She is a great softball player and, although I played baseball myself, she is definitely a major reason how it all got started,” Gonzales said.
Now that Gonzales is going to be coaching the high school team, he is excited and less concerned with the transition for himself.
“I don’t think there will be much of a transition for myself as far as coaching for the high school now because I don’t believe it will be much different than the traveling team,” Gonzales said.
With fall quickly creeping up, it won’t be long for his first season and Gonzales is ready to step in and use his knowledge to help out the team in his own way.
“I want to encourage the girls to play and have a great time doing it as well as give them further knowledge of the game,” Gonzales said.
Even though Gonzales is aware that this will be a transitioning year for the team, he wants to encourage the team to do their best because he is positive the girls can get to the next level.
“I know this season will be a tough transition for the girls with having a new coach and losing a couple great players but I do believe we will be able to compete. I think our main goal will be finding that great catcher because I believe we have every other part of the game. I would like to speed things up a bit and take these girls to the next level and hopefully do well at districts and get to state,” Gonzales said.
Gonzales couldn’t be more pleased to be a part of this team now and is looking forward to finally coaching his first season with them.
“I am excited, very happy and proud to be able to coach these girls in the upcoming season. I want to help the girls believe they can do well because I know they can do it,” Gonzales said.
