The Gering Platte Valley Companies Senior Legion baseball team wasted no time rebounding from the loss to Westco Twin Cities Zephyrs last week as Gering defeated Torrington 7-0 last Wednesday. Gering followed up with a 12-2 win over Sidney on Thursday and a 3-1 win over Ogallala on Saturday.

Last Wednesday Gering faced Torrington, Wyo. at home. Gering’s bats were quiet the first two innings as it was three up and three down. The third inning saw action start as Elijah Timblin crossed home on a Brent Barge single. The fourth inning saw Gering add one more run when Nate Ferrerya double and batted in brother Nick Ferrerya to give Gering a 2-0 lead.

The fifth inning saw Gering really get into the game as a total of five runs came home. The first run was Elijah Timblin scoring on an error. Hernandez made the last run of the game when Austin Reynolds singled. The sixth and seventh innings were quiet for runs.

Logan Conn was the winning pitcher with 4 strikeouts, only 3 hits, and 1 walk. Elijah Timblin, Nate Ferrerya, and Barge led the way on hits with 2 apiece. Reynolds, DeMott, Nick Ferrerya, and Hernandez added to the offensive effort with 1 hit each.

With bases loaded Sidney balked and Brester scored. Nate Ferrerya grounded out but this allowed Quentin Timblin to score. Nick Ferrerya singled and sent Bibb across the plate. Gering closed the inning when Hernandez scored on an error.

Sidney scored their only two runs in the top of the fourth. Nate Ferrerya made one last score in the fifth when he crossed home plate on a wild pitch. The game ended after 5 innings due to the 10-run rule.

The winning pitcher for Gering was Barge with 1 strikeout allowing no walks and five hits. Nick Ferrerya, Nate Ferrerya, and Hernandez each had two hits. Quentin Timblin and Elijah Timblin had one hit.

On Saturday Gering traveled to Ogallala and brought home a 3-1 victory. No one scored until the top of the third when Nate Ferrerya singled to left field and drove home Bibb. Nate Ferrerya reached first on a dropped third strike allowing Barge and DeMott to score. Ogallala made their one score in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Reynolds was the winner on the mound for Gering as he made 3 strikeouts while only allowing 2 hits and no walks. Despite the low score Gering batters still made six hits with Nate Ferrerya getting 2 while Bibb, Brester, Britsch, and Conn had 1 each.
