The Gering B&C Steel Junior Legion Baseball Team bounced back from their loss to the Twin City Express to notch two more wins this week as they beat Sidney 8-7 and Ogallala 15-3. A game scheduled against Guernsey was cancelled.

Gering faced Sidney at home on Thursday and started slow, allowing Sidney to score 1 run in the first inning, 2 runs in the second, and 1 run in the fourth before Gering finally took action in the bottom of the fourth. Christian Rogers doubled with a ground ball to left field allowing Austin Abbott and Brenden Brester to score. Chris Palomo singled to shortstop allowing Dylan Radzymski to score. Trace Fulk got 2 RBIs on a single to right field as Rogers and Austin Hoffman came home. Gering now enjoyed a 5-4 lead.

Sidney did not roll over and play dead as they scored 2 more in the fifth inning and prevented Gering from scoring at all in the bottom of the fifth and Sidney took a 6-5 lead. Gering held Sidney in the top of the sixth and then took over the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Abbott singled and allowed Skylar Mueller to score. Brester doubled and batted in Abbott to take the lead back at 7-6.

Sidney scored in the top of the seventh to tie at 7 all. Gering got the one run they needed as Conner Pickett singled to left field driving Luciano Montanez across the plate for the 8-7 win.

Palomo got the win with 6.2 innings pitched for six strikeouts, two hits, and 2 walks. Mueller finished the game with 2 hits. Palomo led the way on offense with 3 hits, followed by Rogers with 2 and Abbott, Brester, Fulk, and Pickett each earning one hit.
On Saturday the Gering Juniors traveled to Ogallala for a huge 15-3 offensive win. Gering wasted no time taking the lead in the first inning. Palomo singled to right field and earned two RBIs when Hoffman and Cody Snelling scored. Ogallala answered in the bottom of the second making 3 runs and taking a 3-2 lead.

Gering got back in the game in the top of the third when Abbott doubled to left field allowing Fulk and Radzymski to score. Hoffman flied out but Brester tagged up and scored from third base giving Gering a 5-3 lead.

Gering scored 3 more in the fourth when Brester doubled to left field pushing Radzymski across the plate. Abbott doubled and sent Brester home. Mueller singled and allowed Abbott to score. Gering put more nails in Ogallala’s coffin in the fifth inning when Hoffman scored on a wild pitch and Fulk singled to centerfield sending Palomo across the plate. Radzymski reached 1st base on a dropped third strike and was batted into home by Brester.

Gering broke the magic 10 runs in the top of the sixth when Abbott and Mueller scored after Hoffman reached on an error. Gering added insurance when Fulk was hit by a pitch with bases loaded allowing Rogers to score. Radzymski singled to right field sending Hoffman home for the last run of the game. Geirng ended the bottom of the sixth and the game with a double play allowing them to win on the 10-run rule.

Luciano Montanez got the win on the mound with 4 strikeouts, and giving up 3 hits and 3 walks. Gering batters had an impressive 13 hits with 3 by Fulk, 2 by Abbott, Brester, Mueller, and Radzymski, and 1 by Palomo and Hoffman.

Gering B&C Steel Juniors are now 20-13 on the season. Gering travels to North Platte on Wednesday July 9 for the last regular season game.
