USTA tennis club prepares for coming meets

Amidst their third summer of competition under the name of Wildcats Tennis Club, the team has at least 20 members ranging from 18 years old to around 80 years old. Participating for around four months of the year, the club starts up their season during the first part of May which then lasts until the end of September.

Team co-chairs Vince Moreno and Ronda Roth keep the club active as they are a part of what is known as the Missouri Valley section of the United States Tennis Association. The USTA is the largest tennis organization in the world and the mission statement is to Promote and Develop the Growth of Tennis. Roth mentioned the team participates in both local and non-local meets.

“Within our club, we hold four tournaments that are local. We also do some traveling but nothing is necessarily required. Certain people like to go to Nebraskaland Days and play while we also try to at least take two or three teams to Laramie during the first week of August. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone to play,” Roth said.

With the members of the club having plenty of tournament opportunities to participate in, they usually keep one main goal in mind.

“You know, our goal would just be to play the best we can and always participate. We also tend to have the goal of going to the Laramie tournament each year as well,” Roth said.
