Bulldogs preparing for season

It’s that time of the year again. Fall is fast approaching and school supplies are being gathered. On Aug. 14, students will soon be pouring into the hallways of the local schools ready to start the new school year and all of the work that comes with it. However, the Bulldogs have already been hard at work with conditioning and practices this month as they prepare for their upcoming seasons.

The football team has been conditioning since Aug. 4 and is now beginning practices where they are running drills and giving everything they have in order to be the best they can be before their first game. Volleyball is right behind them after starting conditioning on Aug. 11. The girls are running and building their strength as they prepare for practices in the future as well as the actual season. Head coach David Lashley is pleased with how conditioning has been going.

“We have a pretty good turnout. Lots of players are showing up which is great because they will be in shape and ready for when it’s time for practices,” Lashley said.

Lashley is also seeing qualities come out in his players after both camp and the start of conditioning.

“Some players have definitely stood out as leaders but what I’ve seen the most is determination. These girls are working hard with no complaints,” Lashley said.

The first varsity volleyball game will be held in Gillette, Wyo. on Sept. 5 and 6 while the first varsity football game will be on Aug. 29 in Hastings at 7 p.m.

Look forward to upcoming previews in the Citizen of the fall teams. Next week’s paper will feature previews of the tennis, softball, and golf teams followed by the football preview on Aug. 28 as well as the volleyball and cross country previews in the Sept. 4 issue.
