With tournaments right around the corner, head coach Jim Roberts is preparing his team for the upcoming year.

“We have six people going out this season. We have a bit of a young team this year but I have always found that having a core of people go through the four years together as a team are able to improve a lot. They grow together and by the time they are seniors, they are always pretty solid,” Roberts said.

Working hard at practices, the girls have mainly been focusing on the basics which Roberts is hoping will help them to succeed.

“Practice has been going pretty good. The girls are really learning lots and working hard. We are all focusing on the basics because the newer girls need it and it doesn’t hurt the older girls to review them,” Roberts said.

The Lady Tigers will compete in their first tournament on Thursday, Aug. 28 at the Bayard Invitational.

“Our first tournament will actually be our own invite which potentially could have up to fifteen teams and will be scored like a dual because it will be two tournaments in one. It will be the invite as well as the Western Trails Conference. I think everything will go well. If the girls get into it and are comfortable, then we could put down a good score,” Roberts said.
