Photo by Doug Harris/Gering Citizen - Nineteen teams showed up for the Minatare mud volleyball tournament on Saturday. Dozens of young people from around the region came to test their skills in the slippery bogs. The grand champion this year was the Melbeta All-Around team.
Despite the cancellations of the annual Tabor Days celebration in Minatare this year, the community did get together to host a mud volleyball tournament. The double elimination tournament was a popular event, attracting 19 different coed teams from around the Valley.

“We had fun,” event coordinator Lori Lore said. “The people involved liked it a lot.”

The tournament took place across the street from the village park and the newly opened Remington Club. The championship team this year was Melbeta All-Around.

The Minatare Fire Department tanker truck was on hand to ensure the mud bogs had plenty of water. They also set up a sprinkler system so the kids could clean off and cool down.

“In the past we held the tournament for fun but this year we did it for the Minatare community development organization,” Lore said.

The organization was started earlier this year and Lore said they work to help the town as a community service.

“We help to maintain the gazebo at the park and do general clean-up projects for Minatare.”
