Morrill Lions have high hopes on the gridiron

Head Coach Tom Peacock said with four seniors returning and some promising new players for the Lions he expects this season to be more of a success than the last one.

“We were three and five last year but we have a lot of experience under our belt and I think we’ll improve that record.”

Peacock is the activities director for Morrill Public Schools and has been coaching football for over 10 years. “This will be our third year playing 8-man football,” he said, “but the nine previous years I coached 11-man.”

The first game for the Lions is an away match against Hay Springs.

“Things are looking good in practice. We have strong returners and I really think our chances are good to do better than last year.”

The Lions have a complete rooster of 22 players this year. The Lions are a Class D-1 team.

Returning as seniors this year are Jake Hoffman (TE/DE), Jorge Lara (WR/LB), Victor Valles (WR/DB) and Matt Hessler (RG/NT).

Returning juniors to the team include Alex Knouse (RB/DE), Josh Harvey (WR/DB), Ryan McMackin (WR/DB), and quarterback Garrett Zwiebel.

“I’m excited about the season this year, and I’m looking forward to competing with our talented team,” Peacock added.
