Mitchell Cross Country runners ready for season

Head coach Mike Harriger said the Mitchell cross country team was looking good in practice and that the runners seemed excited as they approach their first open match in Gering on Sept. 5.
Both high school and junior high students are on the team.

“We’ve got 11 boys and two girls this year,” Harriger said. “In the sport of cross country it doesn’t matter what grade the athlete is in to qualify to run varsity. Whoever runs the fastest ends up competing at the varsity level. I think we’ll do well this year.”
Junior high coach Brittini Thomas said that there were eight freshmen joining the squad this year.

“I think we’ll do great,” Thomas said. “I am excited. This is my first year coaching and it is good that we can work with the varsity runners. They are good role models for the kids.”

Thursday, Sept 25, 4 p.m. (Varsity only) at Gordon-Rushville High School

Thursday, Oct 2, 2:30 p.m. at Bayard High School
Saturday, Oct 4, 9 a.m. at Sidney High School
Friday, Oct 10, 11:00 a.m. at Gordon-Rushville High School
Thursday, Oct 16, TBA – Districts
Tuesday, Oct 28, TBA – Senior Night at Mitchell
