Coach Ashlee Gompert enters her third year of coaching the Morrill cross country program. Gompert has a stake in the team beyond coach as a 2007 graduate from Morrill who was active in cross country during her high school years.

The team has two runners this year, both new to the sport. Senior Katie Howell joins her teammate freshman runner Remmington Leisy for the 2014 season.

Howell said she wasn't too interested in the competition but wanted to challenger herself, “I wanted to try something new,” she said. “I want to see if it will go ok.”

Leisy said he joined the team because his parents were supportive. It helps that he says he’s “the fastest runner in my family.”

Coach Gompert said that since both runners are trying the distance running sport for the first time, they’ll both be competing in Junior Varsity this season.
