Bulldog freshmen top Bearcats 28-12
     2014-10-02      By The Gering Citizen
The Gering freshman football team headed north of the river Sept. 25 to take on the rival Scottsbluff Bearcats and came away with a 28-12 victory.

Scottsbluff put the first points on the scoreboard in the first quarter with a 1-yard run, but the extra point failed, putting the Bearcats up 6-0.

Gering got rolling in the second quarter when Jacob Rocheleau picked off a Scottsbluff pass and hustled 50 yards into the end zone. Carmelo Ozuna added the extra point to put the Bulldogs up 7-6.

Rocheleau got his second score with a 90-yard kickoff return in the third quarter; then ran in for a 2-point conversion for a Gering lead of 15-6.

In the fourth quarter, Gering quarterback Tyler Pzanka hooked up with Julian Corona for a 37-yard pass. Ozuna made the extra point good, putting Gering up 22-6.

Rocheleau lit up the scoreboard again in the fourth quarter on a 77 yard run. Ozuna’s kick for an extra point was blocked, but Gering was still up 28-6.

Scottsbluff got on the board late on a 5-yard rushing play. They decided to run it for a 2-point conversion, but failed to make it into the end zone. When the final gun sounded, the Gering freshmen came away with a 28-12 win.
