Horseshoe pitchers toss up points for state tourney

KIMBALL — Several area horseshoe pitching participants have fared well at recent tournaments. Three members from a local horseshoe club, Iron Chukars, attended the State Horseshoe Tournament in Columbus, Neb. in early September. John Booker won the Men’s Class CC to be named the State Champion while Lynette Booker won the Women’s Class B for the State Champion title. Fellow Chukar, Tim Shaske, took second place in the Men’s Class C.

The Kimball Farmers’ Day Horseshoe Pitching Tournament was held during the annual celebration last weekend, Sept. 27-28 at Kimball’s Gotte Park. Trophy winners for the day included A Division winners Bill Nelson and Lynette Booker, second place earners John Booker and Doug Meir and third place finishers Tony Vasquez Sr. and Brian Andreas. B Division medalists were Rex Wheeler and Marge Kleich tossing for first place, Less McKnight and Eleanor McKnight 2nd and Gary Vincent and Tina Sifuentez finishing 3rd.

On Sunday, the team of Bill Nelson and Sherri Parshall took top honors in the Mixed Division, Diane McKnight and Marge Kleich took second and Ryan Muldoon and Tina Sifuentez earned third place. All were given cash prizes.

The next competitive tournament will be held at Octoberfest in Sidney Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. The Iron Chukars will begin new league play after the first of the year.
