Mitchell, Bayard earn volleyball victories

Among last week’s area volleyball action, Mitchell scored a four-set victory over Bridgeport and Bayard had a split of its home triangular Thursday night.
For Mitchell, the Tigers scored a 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 15-13 win at Bridgeport.

Statistical leaders for Mitchell had Kady Lower score 11 kills, 13 service points, three ace serves, eight digs and three blocks; McKenna Zulkoski with 11 kills, 23 digs and eight points; Jori Peters with 28 digs, 25 assists, 18 points and three ace serves; Felina Blanco with 11 digs and four points; Aspen Reifschneider with 13 digs, six kills and three points; Hannah Haberman with four kills and seven digs; and Madison Kuxhausen with 12 digs and five points.

At Bayard, the host Tigers were 20-25, 25-15, 25-13 winners over Hemingford but lost to Yoder, Wyo.-Southeast 25-23, 25-21.
Against Hemingford, Bayard’s Mandi Cottrell had 15 points and four aces, Brooklyn Kniss had 14 points and Emily Doremus scored 13 points. Against Southeast, Chellani Parriott scored nine points with three aces, while Doremus had 12 points and two aces and Kniss scored nine points.

In action Friday, Sioux County defeated Minatare 25-6, 25-20, 25-13.
On Saturday, action took place in the Minuteman Activities Conference and the Panhandle Conference tournaments.
In the MAC tourney, Bayard was the top seed and received a first-round bye, but the Tigers got upended by Leyton in the semifinals, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21. Leyton went on to win the championship over Creek Valley, 25-13, 26-24.

Banner County and Minatare were first-round victims. Creek Valley downed Banner County 25-9, 25-8, while Leyton turned back Minatare 25-8, 25-8.

In the Panhandle tourney, Morrill won its opening-round match in two sets over Edgemont, S.D., but the Lions lost to Crawford in two sets in the semifinals. Morrill finished in fourth after losing in two sets to Hay Springs. Crawford defeated Hemingford in three sets to win the PC championship.
