Area volleyball teams finished their seasons on Tuesday at Alliance during the B8 District Tourney. District action started early with Scottsbluff playing Alliance to five sets. Alliance came out on top but Scottsbluff fought all the way and the match was never a sure win for Alliance. Set by score was 25-20, 27-29, 23-25, 25-22, 15-4.

Scottsbluff Coach Kenna Urwiller said, “It didn’t go our way at the end and that is always disappointing but they fought hard, it was a great volleyball match. It was a long game and I was proud of our girls for fighting. We did some great things and I think we played well. We just didn’t finish that last set.”

Gering achieved top dog status in a 3-game sweep over Alliance to win the B8 district championship after a bout against Sidney. Gering clenched the win in four sets. The Lady Bulldogs took the first set 25-22, while Sidney took the second set 25-9 where Gering struggled to find its footing. G-Town recovered and won the next two sets 25-20 and 25-19. Senior Kaylee Spreier had 17 kills.

In the championship game against Alliance. Gering decisively swept the opposing Bulldogs in three sets 25-20, 25-15, and 25-16. Gering took early control of the match and never gave it back. Spreier had 10 kills.

Gering coach Dave Lashley said the win was good. “We really wanted to get this for our seniors. They have had a kind of a rough go the last couple of years. It was a great opportunity for us to reward them for all that they have done. The kids played well and played hard, it was good, it was real good,” he said.

Gering is now 20-15 on the season and will advance to the sub state match on Saturday. Their opponent and location of the match had not been determined as of press time.
