Gering, Scottsbluff players make All-Conference softball team

Gering had six honorees and Scottsbluff had five selections to the All-Western Conference softball team.
For Gering, which finished 20-11 and its third straight 20-win season, seniors Cierra Booker, Mikayla Butler and Isabel Thompson and junior Brooke Doggett are all-conference selections, while sophomore Kaylee Bohnsack and freshman Kaetlyn Todd are honorable mention picks.

Thompson led the Bulldogs in runs scored with 50 and drew a team-high 23 walks as Gering’s leadoff hitter. Thompson had a .461 batting average with 41 hits that included seven doubles, three triples and one home run and drove in 15 runs. Thompson recently signed to play at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.

Butler was Gering’s top pitcher and compiled a record of 17-10 with an earned-run average of 3.89 107 strikeouts and 60 walks issues in 138-2/3 innings.

At the plate, Butler carried a .427 batting average with 35 hits that included eight doubles and four home runs and scored 28 runs. Butler shared the Bulldogs’ lead in runs batted in with Booker and Doggett with 33, and she drew a team-high 21 walks.

Doggett led the Bulldogs in hitting with a .537 batting average and 44 base hits that included five home runs, five doubles and three triples. Doggett had a co-team lead in RBI with 33 and also drew 13 walks.

Booker had 41 total hits with a .414 batting average with 33 RBI, 29 runs scored, six doubles and six triples.
While stepping in immediately at catcher, Todd had a batting average of .357 with 25 hits and 15 runs scored.

Bohnsack had a .411 batting average with 37 hits that included five doubles, with 23 RBI and 28 runs scored.
For Scottsbluff, which finished with a 15-17 record, seniors Barbara Calvert and Shelby Trussel and junior Zoe Holscher made the all-conference team, while senior Lou Ramirez and junior Chloey Reifschneider made the honorable mention list.

In statistics for 30 games, Calvert had team highs of a .568 batting average, with 50 hits – including 15 doubles, five triples and two home runs – along with 28 RBI and 40 runs scored.
Holscher batted .475 with 38 hits including 12 doubles, with 34 runs scored and 19 RBI.

Trussel had a .427 batting average with 32 hits including 10 doubles and two triples, along with 28 RBI and 28 runs scored.
Ramirez batted .437 with 38 hits including nine doubles and four triples, along with 27 runs scored and 18 RBI.

Reifschneider had a .450 batting average with 27 hits including two doubles, with 17 runs scored and 13 RBI.
