Bearcats, Tigers earn super-state, all-state cross country honors

Scottsbluff placed three boys from its Class B state-winning cross country team on the Nebraska Coaches Association’s 2014 boys’ cross country super-state and all-state teams.

The Bearcat boys were paced by senior three-time state champion Matthew Barraza, who completed his trifecta of gold-medal state performances with a winning time of 16:10.
Senior Shane Burkey placed third in 16:38 for both super-state and all-state honors as well. The top-four boys from Class B earned both designations.

Scottsbluff senior Matthew Richardson, who placed seventh at state with a clocking of 17:02, earned an all-state award.
With a low score of 26 points, the Bearcats earned the 14th state team championship for the Scottsbluff boys’ program.

Scottsbluff senior Taylor Muncie finished fourth in the Class B girls’ race at 19:45 to earn both super-state and all-state honors. Muncie led the Bearcat girls to a second-place team finish.

In Class C, Mitchell sophomore Celeste Cardona won her second straight girls’ state title, turning in a time of 20:17 to earn both super-state and all-state honors.

Mitchell junior Edward Grentz was fifth in the Class C boys’ race in 17:33 and earned all-state honors.
